JMF at Careers in Conservation and Sabi Sand Trail Run

In the past two months I had the honour of participating in two events designed to bring conservation and local communities together—something that is a core part of the JMF mission.

🐾🌱 Careers in Conservation

“Your future is bigger than what you see today.”

On 18 August 2026, I had the privilege of sharing this message with young people at the 6th Annual Careers in Conservation Expo.

Standing before hundreds of young people reminded me of the little boy I once was, growing up in the dusty streets of Thulamahashe, Mpumalanga, not knowing where life would take me.

Sometimes, when you are young, all you can see is where you are. Your circumstances. Your limitations. The doors that haven't opened yet.

But your beginning does not have to determine your destination.

My message was simple:

Keep learning. Keep preparing. Keep believing. Take the opportunities that come your way. Your journey may not follow the path you imagined—but that does not mean it cannot become something meaningful.

My sincere appreciation to the Global Conservation Corps, GKEPF and The Timbavati Foundation for creating spaces such as this, where young people are exposed to opportunities, careers and possibilities they may not have known existed.

When we expose a young person to possibility, we may be doing far more than introducing them to a career. We may be helping them see a future they had never imagined for themselves.

I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to a journey that is opening doors, expanding possibilities and inspiring the next generation to dream beyond what they see today.

Your future is bigger than what you see today.

🏃🏿🌿 Sabi Sand Trail Run

I also took part in the Sabi Sand Trail Run. This event, hosted by Sabi Sand Pfunanani Trust and Sabi Sand Nature Reserve, uses sport and physical activity to bring communities and conservation together, something JMF understands well!

What a beautiful experience running through one of South Africa’s most incredible landscapes. 🌍

More than just a trail run, it was a moment to connect with nature, people and purpose. I’m grateful for every step, every conversation and every memory made along the way.

Here’s to staying active, protecting our beautiful spaces and using every opportunity to make a difference. ❤️
